SIMS (Steel Monitoring Import System) is No Objection certificate issued for the intended import of steel with a total quantum to be imported within the next 6 months’ time frame if the properties of steel grade/product do not fall under the purview mandatory BIS list for Steel and Steel Products, the Ministry of Steel issues exemption/clarification/NOC on the consignment coming to India.
Timeline for SIMS NOC
It usually takes 20-25 days after submission of successful application. MOS usually conducts two (2) committee meetings per month. The frequency may vary depending on the availability of MOS authorities and no of applications received. The applicant may apply to the higher committee (empowered committee) if the case decision received from the technical committee is not in favor.
