This is Sagar Pandya from SP Consultants. Today, I would like to highlight the current shifts in the GeM catalog system and the critical importance of Vendor Assessment.

As we previously predicted, the GeM portal is becoming significantly stricter. Only authorized manufacturers (those who have completed Vendor Assessment) and their verified resellers will be allowed to transact via Direct Orders and Bid Participation. Since our initial warning, many product categories have already been transitioned to “Quadrant 2” (Q2).

What is a Quadrant 2 (Q2) Category?
Q2 categories are controlled environments where only Vendor Assessed manufacturers with an OEM panel can create catalogs and authorize resellers. By implementing this, the GeM authority is giving full control of the brand and catalog to the manufacturers.

How things have changed:
Previously, many categories (now Q2) were classified under Q3/Q4. In those quadrants, any reseller—whether authorized or not—could create catalogs, which were then approved or rejected by the GeM admin team. This open system led to a wave of “catalog spamming” with unbelievably low offer prices. This created significant challenges for Buyers trying to identify authentic products and severely harmed the business of legitimate manufacturers and authorized resellers.

How to plan your future on the GeM Portal:
To ensure your business continues to grow on GeM, we recommend the following:

Apply for Vendor Assessment: Non-assessed manufacturers will soon have minimal to no scope on the portal (except for specific retail items in Q3 & Q4).
Register your Trademark (TM): A registered Trademark is compulsory for both Vendor Assessment applications and Brand Registration on GeM.
